If you’re wondering what are ASMR tingles and what exactly they might feel like if you were to get them; then hopefully this article will provide you with some understanding into the newest online phenomenon.
Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response Or ASMR for short causes a tingling sensation in your head and sometimes your lower neck area.
This can also be triggered elsewhere throughout the body but both those places are amongst the most commonly reported places.
This can be triggered by many things, whether you’re watching them performed in a YouTube video or you’re experiencing them in real life.
Here are a couple of my favorite triggers that allow me to get the tingles I’m talking about:
Visual Triggers:
- Hand Movements
- An Attractive Face
- Moving Light
- Tracing (Art and Pictures)
- Skin Touching
Audible Triggers
- Scratching
- Tapping On Wood
- Mouth Sounds
- Triggers Words (Swearing or Random Words)
The tingling sensation is relaxing and pleasurable; hence why people in the community talk about it so much (just like I do on this blog) and chase that feeling with every video they watch.
What Does ASMR Feel Like
Let’s get into exactly what do ASMR tingles feel like now that you know what are ASMR tingles; as it can be hard to articulate with a couple of words if you haven’t yet experienced this newfound feeling.
If you’ve ever had chills (no doubt you have) typically in your back or in your arms then you would have felt a similar sensation.
Although these chills are usually uncomfortably brought about by cold, sometimes awkward situations (not sure if this one is unique to me) or hearing a hypnotizingly beautiful piece of music.
Chills can happen all over, all at once in harmony but ASMR is not like this, it almost travels throughout the body, typically starting at the head of the scalp and moving down the neck – as I’ve stated.
It can happen in my experience in waves, whether that’s because the initial sound or visual trigger affects me and I can watching and it escalates or I keep reimaging the feeling or what has just happened visually and that’s where the pulsing feeling of these tingles is brought about.
What Causes ASMR Tingles
Now that you know what are ASMR tingles, let’s go further into what causes tingles.
We’ve already spoken about this a little bit previously but that was more speaking about what I have found working through videos on YouTube rather than what could cause it in real life.
This sensation can be brought about by:
- Sounds
- Sights
- Smells
- Textures
- Touch
These things can happen in real life by many situations, but a lot of times they come about due to personal attention situations, whether you’re with a loved one or a doctor – typically if you smelt a really great smell from your local market this would not bring about the tingles because that isn’t quite a personal experience.
Even if you were to find that this smell triggering your ASMR under other circumstances.
In this case, I’d like to give you some situations you might find yourself in that could unexpectedly bring about tingles:
- Hair Shampooing
- Barbershop
- Massage Session
- Whispering in bed with your partner
These are just a few I can name off the top of my head.
Just think about 1 on 1 situation you might find yourself in, in life and these could be potential times where your ASMR might trigger if everything is aligned perfectly.
Using ASMR As a Treatment Tool
ASMR is widely and commonly used to help with sleep; allowing you to relax after a stressful day and even giving you the tingles I’m talking about in this article.
In my opinion, it is a great way to destress and get you into that sleepy feeling – especially if you make it a part of your nightly routine your body almost gets used to the sounds you watch allowing you to easily transform yourself into a sleepy state on a nightly basis.
Because of this, since it helps to transform your mood into a state that is more co-operable when seeking sleep.
It can also be used commonly to reduce anxieties and stints of depression in a person during their time of watching these types of videos and some time afterward.
Final Words on What Are ASMR Tingles
Hopefully, I have answered your question as to what is ASMR tingles as well as how I and many others in the community, and even you can go about bringing this tingly scalp feeling on more reliably.
I can imagine you’re more than excited to get these tingles for yourself; so I’d recommend that you check out How To Get ASMR Tingles Tonight if you just can’t wait.
